we bring conversation and democracy alive

WHO WE ARE

We help organisations grapple with problems of all sizes through highly skilled facilitation and robust community and stakeholder engagement. We bring people from all walks of life together to collectively explore perspectives, solve issues, build trust, shape effective strategies and contribute to decision that ‘stick’.

We work across every sector, designing and delivering high-impact plans, projects and processes. We’re the team to call when things are stuck, emotions are building, stakes are high, there's pressure to deliver, or the path forward isn’t clear.

We are known for:

  • designing high-quality engagement processes across all sectors that exceed expectations and set the best-practice bar

  • working closely with you as your partner and trusted advisor to steer you through risks and challenges

  • being at the forefront of deliberative engagement practice in Australia and beyond (with 50+ deliberative processes delivered and the authors of the 'Big Book' of Facilitating Deliberation leading our team)

  • navigating conflict, complexity, outrage and polarisation with calm confidence

  • bringing integrity, independence and quality assurance to every project

  • leading the way through research and evidence-based innovations, and setting the bar for best practice.

COLLECTIVELY, WE HAVE MORE THAN 200 YEARS of EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

We’re a family-owned, values-based organisation and we aim to prioritise people, principles and process over profit. We bring independence to every project and are known for providing honest, genuine advice.

We share our knowledge and learnings by providing free resources and we reinvest in the field through advocacy, research and pro-bono work.

where we’re going

We are deliberative engagement specialists. We seek to lead where deliberation is going and we participate in international, industry networks.

We’re committed to strengthening deliberative practice across the world and supporting others to embed deliberation into decision-making.

We contribute to international conversations about deliberative democracy, and we are members of Democracy R&D.

INNOVATION IN PRACTICE

Innovation isn’t a side note at MosaicLab, it’s embedded in how we design, facilitate, and evolve engagement practice.

From pioneering Australia’s first deliberative standing panels to using AI-enabled tools for live information processing, insight capture and analysis, we’re always looking for smarter, more future-ready ways to support participation. We explore hybrid formats that work, deliver recruitment methods that maximise trust and retention, and find more impactful ways to amplify often unheard voices.

We also challenge assumptions, test new methods, and document learnings. Whether it’s integrating participant sensemaking sessions, trialling tools to enhance accessibility, or designing new models of deliberation, we lead with curiosity and rigour. Our innovations are grounded in research and evidence, shaped by real data and feedback, and are shared generously to strengthen and give back to the field.

since 2016, we’ve delivered more than 450 projects, including 53 deliberative engagement processes.
