ML GIVING
WHAT IS ML GIVING?
ML Giving is MosaicLab’s not-for-profit, pro bono division, dedicated to supporting important conversations where they’re needed most.
Guided by strong principles and values, we help emerging and under resourced communities foster deeper conversations that address challenges, solve problems, and create effective plans.
By offering our engagement and facilitation skills at no cost, we support organisations and communities that are highly important but may lack resources.
ABOUT ML GIVING PROJECTS
We facilitate discussions on any topic, and aim to support organisations such as non-profits, First Nations-led initiatives and those working in areas like affordable housing, mental health, climate action, education, diversity and inclusion, and democracy-building.
WORKING WITH ML GIVING
Have an issue or hard topic that you need to bring people together to solve? Read the information below to learn more about working with us.
-
We welcome applications from groups whose work aligns with our values and focuses on creating meaningful, inclusive change.
This includes projects led by or supporting First Nations communities, people with disabilities, and initiatives in education, affordable housing, and democracy-building.
We also wish to support efforts addressing domestic violence, climate action, empowering disadvantaged youth, promoting mental health, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
While we aim to be as inclusive as possible, certain projects do not qualify for our pro bono services.
These include:
Commercial ventures focused on profit-driven initiatives.
Government-funded entities with access to engagement resources.
Political campaigns or projects.
-
The guiding principles that underpin the work we select are:
The work must focus on furthering local community inclusion and action beyond just getting input and more into enabling local decision-making.
The work must involve democratising the process as much as possible for society i.e. opening up to more voices, more often and giving more control away.
The work must involve communities or issues that won’t ordinarily get funding or support to do the work.
-
We are offering $5000 per project to support the costs associated with making a good project happen.
All of our professional time is offered at no cost.
Our time will cover preparation, delivery and any write-up or close out actions for the project (equivalent to around 4 days of work for two facilitators).
-
There are some important things we need from you:
Advise us around key logistics:
We would work with you to determine some logistical elements such as session dates and lengths, permissions required, coordination of participants, venue access and equipment available etc.Prepare and sign off on materials:
We will help you prepare a short background document that explains the issue at hand, why it is tricky and what you are weighing up with possible solutions.Provide access to a venue:
We would require a space to conduct the sessions with adequate room for the group to work in (the bigger the better) and some basic equipment such chairs for all the participants and a projector and screen. MosaicLab can bring in most required materials and equipment.Commitment to follow through on outcomes from the process.

Please note: We do have to limit our not-for-profit work to just a few special initiatives each year,

Ml giving in action
empowering refugee women
Our first pro-bono project officially under the new ML Giving banner was facilitating a business planning process for refugee women in Geelong, hosted by Cultura.
Five workshops were delivered that empowered participants (10 women from mostly Farsi and Dari speaking communities) to develop their own business plan.
Read about how this project helped these incredible women get ready to turn planning into action in this case study.
