#MONTHLYMYTH: TIGHT TIMELINES? RUSH IT THROUGH

It’s one of the most common challenges faced by people planning an engagement process – the deadline dilemma. Internal factors and decisions tend to influence the timeframe in which your engagement process must be completed and often, this is simply too tight.

The mistake many make is automatically assuming there’s no room to move and rushing the engagement process through (even if their gut tells them not to).

The implications of a tight timeframe are significant for you, the organisation and the people you are engaging with. There are risks that come with a rushed engagement process, and these risks have the potential to undermine all of your engagement efforts.

Timeline problems are usually evident right at the beginning of a process when you’re in the early design phases – and this is the time to fix them. We are often asked to help organisations address issues such as outrage and reduced trust that have stemmed from poorly planned engagement processes and could have been prevented.

If decision-makers set a deadline, this can be perceived as immovable. However, by bringing the right information to decision-makers for consideration and/or being strategic about your engagement approach, you might be able to find a solution that works for everyone.

We know that it can be challenging having conversations with decision-makers about a change to their timeframes. So, we’ve put together a free resource to help you navigate this tricky issue.
